Organized by the Foundation for the National Interest, together with the UP Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, with the support of The Asia Foundation, the third installment of the "Kwentong Mandaragat" webinar series was held on November 26, 2020.
The third webinar discussed the issue of defense and security issues in Philippine maritime zones. The discussants of the webinar featured Mr. Tony Long, CEO of the Global Fishing Watch, Dr. Asyura Salleh, Fellow at the Pacific Forum, and Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy, VAdm. Giovanni Bacordo PN.
Mr. Long explained how trends and patterns from accumulated national data on fishing can help detect anomalous maritime activities.
Dr. Salleh centered her discussion around traditional and non-traditional maritime security issues persisting along the southern borders of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
VAdm. Bacordo provided a comprehensive discussion on the state of the Philippines' efforts in addressing external maritime concerns.
The webinar was attended by more than 80 individuals from the academe, private sector, security establishment, and public sector, nationwide.
